Launch report for 6th September 1998

The weather was again nice and the sun was shining. The wind was still blowing but at least it was not blowing its normal gale on top of the hill.

I was the first to launch my Bail Out on a B6-4 engine, which did a nice flight and as soon as the parachute deployed, young James raced after it and reached the rocket just as it touched down.

James then launched his own Sabre rocket on a B6-2 which also did a nice flight but came down rather hard and broke a fin. He then Launched a Skywinder also on a B6-2 engine and this rocket did a great flight and helicoptered slowly to the ground with cheers from himself and his parents.

Soon Laurie turned up with a small but varied selection of rockets including his Snake Bite Rocket.

He armed the Snake Bite on a B6-4 engine and sent the rocket skyward, to a perfect flight. Pleased with the flight Laurie rearmed the rocket with a C6-5 and launched it again.

The rocket did a nice flight once again and reached a good height before deploying its parachute and slowly drifting back to earth with James again in hot pursuit.

The next to launch was Jake with his Jayhawk rocket on a D12-5 engine,

this nicely built model of a U.S. target Drone looked really good on the pad. But looked even better when after the countdown the rocket did a nice slow take off and a perfect vertical climb before deploying its red nylon parachute and returning slowly to earth.

Michael then after a few problems launched his Free fall rocket on a B6-4 engine and this rocket also returned to earth without damage.

Laurie then launched his strange looking Fab Toy rocket on a C6-7 and after recovery he rearmed it with a A8-3 engine and said to everyone that he was going to catch it.

Unfortunately the rocket went a bit to far down range and Laurie just missed catching the rocket but he had a very good try.

James Burge and Matthew Walker also came along with a number of rockets including a Mongoose which was modified to fly on D engines and was last seen heading into the clouds.

Overall it was a good day and the members spent over 3 hours having fun and launching rockets… the main aim of H.A.R.T.
