LAUNCH REPORT FOR THE 15TH MARCH 1998

The weather today was again cold but the wind was nice and light. I arrived at 12.40pm to set up and found that Ken had come at 9.00am and had set up the launch area already - thanks Ken !!

When I arrived there was already one person waiting in the car park who had come along to see what H.A.R.T. got up to.

At 1.00pm I started the launches with my home made "Gnome King" rocket which launched on a A8-3, the rocket launched and landed safely but the rocket needed a bigger engine.

Paul launched his "Blue Frost" rocket on a B4-2 engine, this rocket went very high but as it was on a streamer it landed quite near the launch pad

Soon Gary, Peter and Marc turned up and set about launching the first of their 10 launches, their first launch was a gold coloured RediRoc Rocket called the "Raider" this strange little rocket was launched on a 1/2A3-2T engine and looked a little underpowered during it's short flight but had a gentle tumble recovery.

Members and first time visitors soon started to appear at a steady rate and we soon had over 20 people on the hill.

Gary's next launch was the maiden flight of his "Firebird" rocket on a B6-4, the rocket did a nice high flight before returning gently back to earth on it's parachute.

Jake launched his "Delta Clipper" on a C5-3 engine and the rocket did a nice flight but broke one of its feet on landing, Jake then launched his "Tango Zappo" on a D12-0, this rocket launched and then did a nice explosion at around 100 feet as the deployment charge fired while the rocket was still travelling at a high speed.

I then launched my "Gnome King" on a B4-4 engine, the rocket went a bit higher, but it was still underpowered. the ejection charge fired but the parachute stayed in the rocket and it seemed my rocket was doomed but then the parachute decided to deploy itself when the rocket was about 50 foot from the ground and landed safely.

Gary's best launch of the day was his "Big Bertha" on a B6-4 engine, this did a nice high flight but it then amazed the watchers as it landed on top of it's launch pad.

Tony had brought along a few of his interesting and great looking model rockets, his first launch was the "Fireball XL5" on a C6-3 which did a nice flight and landing.

Jake again launched his "Tango Zappo" rocket on a D12-0 this time when the ejection charge fired the rocket just separated from its nose cone and streamer while the main part of the rocket continued skywards before diving into the ground at the bottom of the hill and collected an earth core sample

Ken armed his long suffering "Phoenix" with a D12-3 and everyone waited to see if the rocket would have it's 4th Cato but for a change the rocket did a perfect launch and then deployed the parachute and landed gently on the side of the hill.

The competition which was a close call between Tony's "Angel Interceptor", Ken's "Lunar Lander" and Jake and Alan's "Stealth Fighter" was finally won by Ken.

Tony then launched his "Angel Interceptor" on a C6-3 engine, the rocket did a nice flight which even included a few "barrel rolls" before deploying it's parachute. the rocket, the rocket landed quite heavily and broke it's tail and both fins.

The meeting had a total of 28 people turn up, 9 members launched 31 rockets
