Launch Report for 17th May 1998

For the first time we had some good weather, warm and sunny but with still the normal wind to deal with.

Slowly the members of H.A.R.T. turned up and started to arm their rockets.

The first to launch was Laurie with his "Thunderbird 7" rocket on a A8-3 engine to test the wind.

The rocket did a nice but short flight and was soon recovered and relaunched on a B6-4.

Sam and his Dad Chris was the next to launch with their home made rocket called "Tail Thrust" on a C6-7 engine, this rocket powered it's way to around 500 feet before deploying its parachute returning to earth.

Chris also launched his now shorter "Shadow" rocket on a D12-3, the rocket again did its normal nice flight but on recovery Chris found the shock cord had cut the top of the body tube. It looks like the rocket is going to get even shorter

Gary and again came along with a number of rockets and launched a variety of different rockets including a "Fat Boy" and a redi roc "Raider"

New member Mathew Walker had a lot of rockets and launched a nice "Silver Comet" on a D12-3 but unfortunately the shock cord broke and the rocket tumbled back to earth, while the parachute drifted into the distance.

Paul launched his "Pencil" rocket once again, and this finless rocket again did a great straight flight before landing near the pad.

Laurie also launched a third rocket at the meeting and this launch was a special launch… his 500th launch.

He chose his "X-Wing" rocket again to do the hundredth launch.

The rocket was soon having a lot of photos taken and then with a push of a button the X-Wing climbed into the Sky on the power of a C6-3 engine.

Unfortunately the shock cord broke and the X-Wing tumbled to the ground and it looked just like the Tie fighters had clocked up another kill.

Perhaps Laurie will use the crash in his next Star Wars Film

Overall the meeting was a great success with 9 H.A.R.T. members launching 30 rockets.
